One of the benefits of being Bill Jelen (Mr Excel) is that people send you all kids of tips.
This tips was submitted for consideration for Bill Jelen and Szilvia Juhasz’s book 40 Greatest Excel Tips of All Time.
Here Is The Scenario
You have a ton of data, and you are scrolling all over the place. You may have used:
- Ctrl + Shift + DownArrow
- Ctrl + Shift + RightArrow
And now maybe you are at the bottom right hand corner of the data. And you know that you could always go to the other corner by using:
- Ctrl + Period
Ctrl + BACKSPACE
This is a beautiful tip. No matter where you are at on your spreadsheet, it will always bring your active cell back into view. Meaning that this will take you from the bottom right of your data (or anywhere else) back to your active cell. This is particularly helpful if you have used your scroll bar to get far removed from your active cell and need to return to the active cell.

Great tip, which I find very helpful, like most of the Excel TV content 🙂
But wish that it works when you are on another Excel sheet, but I cannot get that to work.
Are you familiar with any posibilities to get this functionality also 🙂

I also wish there was a shortcut like ctrl+bkspace that takes you back even if you are on a different worksheet. It doesn’t make sense to me why that isn’t built into ctrl+bkspace already.
I work a lot with tables and my favorite recently found shortcut is ctrl+space/shift+space to select entire column/row and then using ctrl+minus/underscore to delete. It’s a great way to delete data points on the fly without having to grab the mouse.
instead of ctrl+shift+down arrow and ctrl+shift+right arrow
We may use ctrl+A to select current range
